Why following your curiosity can lead to your most powerful moments.

We may not remember the moment we learned to walk, or talk, but from the very moment we’re born, we’re learning. We’re taking in the world around us, watching closely the movements of those around us, analysing, understanding and learning new behaviours based on all of these things. The will to learn throughout life doesn’t go away, but how do we harness this to realise a dream? Often the things we’re naturally drawn to, or are naturally curious about, can be the things that are a part of our planetary purpose. These can be the unique ways in which we’re meant to change the world, a manifestation of our soul’s true calling.

This was how I discovered my passion for soils. And as much as dirt can sound like a funny thing to be passionate about, it came out of this near vertical learning curve of a near fatal diagnosis of Spinal Meningitis which was brought on by exposure to toxic chemicals. I came to learn that soils are one of our planets most valuable assets, a thin layer covering the Earth’s surface providing food and fibre for 7 billion people. I also learnt that soils are living, and are responsible for providing nutritious food and clean water. The impact of our farming practices were and still are poisoning these soils, killing critical soil microbes.

This learning. This moment of curiosity. This moment of pursuing a seemingly removed, or unrelated element of such a large diagnosis, led me to my epiphany, to my calling as The Earth Agent, and empowering over 10,000 farmers with new knowledge on regenerative farming practices.

But learning about the soil didn’t just lead me to a business venture. It led me to learning more about myself than I ever had before, awakening a uniquely human experience of deep intuition and purpose. With no MBA, no formal training in soil or plant and animal health, but a larger than life trust in my intuition and ability to make a change, I followed this calling. For 25 years I had been asking myself why I was here on earth, and what my purpose was. Following my nose in learning and being disciplined to learn something entirely new, I was able to move closer to being able to answer those questions.

Don’t despair if you’re not certain of your why and your what. Just remember, you are equipped to begin exploring those things right now. Make the decision to step into the discipline of learning, and of curiosity. And it won’t just be your intellect that grows, but your sense of self and everything that comes along with that. Enable yourself to connect with your greatest self and step into your best life yet. This is not the lifetime to stay hidden, but to step forth, be seen and rise and shine.
