Growing up on the family farm just outside of Young, Rhonda spent her childhood with dirt under her fingernails living a busy, but fun life. Her childhood is filled with memories of riding horses, doing sheep work and dipping the sheep in the yellow foul-smelling arsenic liquid to kill the lice, and standing in the wheat crops, marking for the aeroplane to spray insect killer. The land, the soil and mother nature were close friends and would continue to be throughout her life, as a farmer’s daughter and later a farmer’s wife.
In 2001, the exposure to these toxic chemicals made a frightening re-appearance in Rhonda’s life, when she suffered a near-death experience with Spinal Meningitis, triggered by toxic chemical poisoning. Her diagnosis and the subsequent treatment led to an epiphany during a hospital stay, to heal the soils and help others – a catalyst for her to seek a new direction for ethical food production, and better treatment of our soils, food, people and planet.
Rhonda stepped into her calling as The Earth Agent.
In coming up with a solution to show farmers how they could evolve to a smarter greener way of farming, Rhonda and her husband Bill co-founded YLAD Living Soils.
YLAD Living Soils is a natural fertiliser and compost business empowering farmers with the knowledge to improve regenerative practices beginning with healthier soils.
Over 17 years, YLAD Living Soils has educated over 10,000 farmers on making positive changes, changes that lead to a more ethical, sustainable food and fibre production system. Rhonda is a powerful advocate for changing the world, and is now using her voice to inspire and empower others to be the change they want to see.
